LIBERTY Global PLC is now in talks to acquire Cable & Wireless Communications PLC in a deal that could be worth roughly US$5.5 billion.
The Jamaica Observer has learnt that the takeover deal between the companies could be reached before they report their respective results in early November, and is aimed at widening Liberty Global’s presence in the Caribbean and elsewhere. The acquisition would create a twist for CWC telecommunications group, which has been operating for 150 years.
“Liberty Global confirms that it is in discussions with the board of CWC regarding a possible offer for the entire issued and to-be-issued share capital of CWC,” Liberty Global said in a statement yesterday.
