THE Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has selected Eight Rivers Energy Company (EREC) Limited to build, own, and operate a 33.1 megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) energy generation facility at Paradise Park in Westmoreland.

EREC is half owned by Neoen — an international independent power producer — and Rekamniar Frontier Ventures, UK-based experts in the alternative energy and agro-processing industries.

The request for proposal to supply up to 37 megawatts of electricity from renewable energy sources on a build, own and operate basis was issued on July 31, 2015. This followed an initial Request For Proposal (RFP) issued in November 2012 for 115 megawatts of renewable electricity generation capacity, as the Government sought to increase the country’s supply of renewable energy.
