British tourists attracted by Bolt effect


LUCY Mowatt, spokesperson for marketing company Holiday Hypermarket in the United Kingdom, said Tuesday that more British citizens are heading for Jamaica, linking the change to better economic conditions and also a response to Jamaica Tourist Board advertisements featuring sprinter Usain Bolt.

She told the Jamaica Observer that while Dominica in the Caribbean was still the number one destination for travellers surveyed by Hypermarket, with 44 per cent share of holidays to the region, the number of travellers to Jamaica had risen 62 per cent, year over year.

The Caribbean as a whole, year over year, was up 15 per cent, Cuba went up 45 per cent for 2015, Mowatt said.
